Description
Building What's Next: Land, Development & Housing Opportunities Target Audience: Infill Builders & Developers, Custom Builders, Mid-Size Developers, & Architects The Land & Capital Summit brings together builders, developers, housing professionals, public-sector experts, and industry leaders for a focused look at the forces shaping the future of residential development in Central Texas. As the region enters its next phase of growth, successful projects will depend on understanding not only where the housing market is headed, but also how neighborhoods are evolving, how projects move through the development process, and how builders and developers can access the capital needed to bring new communities and housing opportunities to market. The 2026 Summit will explore the future of single-family neighborhoods, provide a data-driven outlook for the Central Texas housing and development market, examine financing and capital opportunities, and give attendees direct access to City of Austin development experts who can help answer questions about permitting, plan review, site development, environmental requirements, and inspections. Attendees will leave with practical insights into the trends, resources, and development considerations that will influence land investment, housing production, and project feasibility in 2027 and beyond. Keynote The Future of Single-Family Neighborhoods in North America Speaker: Jake Wegmann For more than a century, the detached single-family home has defined the North American dream. Today, changing housing needs, affordability challenges, and evolving policies are reshaping that landscape. Jake Wegmann, Professor at the University of Texas School of Architecture, will explore six emerging models for neighborhood evolution—from accessory dwelling units to higher-density redevelopment—and share his predictions for how established neighborhoods will change over the coming decades. Breakout Session Digging In: Where the Central Texas Housing Market Goes From Here Speaker: Vaike O'Grady After years of headline volatility—from pandemic-era demand to market correction and cautious recovery—the Central Texas housing market is entering a new phase. This session provides a data-driven look at current residential development trends and where opportunities exist for builders and developers in 2027. Attendees will gain insight into what's working, what's changing, and what to expect moving forward. Breakout Session Development Solutions Office Hours: Ask the Experts This interactive session provides attendees with direct access to City of Austin Development Services subject matter experts in an informal, one-on-one setting. Rather than a traditional presentation, attendees can move freely throughout the room, meeting with specialists based on the topics most relevant to their projects. The goal is to answer general questions, build relationships, and help participants better understand Austin's development process. Breakout Session Building Capital: The Bank-Builder Relationship Speaker/Panel: Rob Wilson and Luis Jauregui Access to capital is about more than securing the next loan, it's about building a long-term relationship with the right financial partner. Join banker Rob Wilson and builder Luis Jauregui for a candid conversation about today's residential lending environment, including bank appetites for residential construction and development loans, spec homes, and other projects. They'll explore what lenders are looking for, how builders can better position themselves for financing, and why a strong, long-term bank relationship can be just as valuable as the capital itself.
